The Ivy Baptist Church Scholarship Ministry offers financial support to graduating high school seniors who are active members of the church. Through four distinct scholarships, we honor excellence in leadership, community service, and spiritual commitment.
There are three scholarship opportunities:
- The Ivy Baptist Church Scholarship – Deadline June 5
- The William Washington Scholarship – Deadline June 5
- The Thelma D. Stephens Scholarship – Deadline June 5
- The Swann Family Scholarship – Deadline August 17
Scholarship Opportunities & Requirements
Ivy Baptist Church Scholarship
To be eligible for the Ivy Baptist Church scholarship, the applicant must be:
- A member of Ivy Baptist Church for at least 6 months
- An active participant in a Church ministry
- A graduate from an accredited high school who is accepted to a two or four-year college/university or trade school
- A graduate from an accredited four-year college/university that is accepted into a master’s level program
An unofficial high school transcript and a copy of the higher education acceptance letter must be included with the application.
William Washington Scholarship
The William Washington Scholarship is available for graduating high school seniors in the Hampton Roads area with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Applicants must submit a 500-word essay with their application outlining:
- How he/she demonstrates an excellent record of conduct
- Leadership potential
- Civic and community involvement
Thelma D. Stephens Scholarship
The Thelma D. Stephens Scholarship is available for graduating high school students or college/university students who have been a members of Ivy Baptist Church for at least 6 months.
The applicant should be active in a church ministry or have community involvement through church, school, or outside organizations.
Applicants must submit a 250-500 word essay detailing how obtaining higher education allow them to impact their community in the future.
The Swann Family Scholarship
The Swann Family Scholarship is available for graduating high school students. with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Applicants must submit an essay outlining the following:
- Community involvement (church, school, and outside organizations)
- Leadership potential
- Academic achievement
- Financial need
- Family values
- Educational goals, and future aspirations
An unofficial high school transcript and proof of enrollment in an accredited college or university must be included with the application.
Two sealed letters of recommendation are required from individuals who can share the following:
- The student’s community service and/or community involvement
- The student’s leadership potential
Both letters of recommendation should be:
- Typed on official letterhead
- Signed and dated by the person writing the recommendation
- Delivered in sealed envelopes to the church office (via mail or hand-delivery)
Application Submissions
Completed applications must be emailed or postmarked no later than the specified deadline.
